Privacy Policy

What Qisma collects when you split a bill, scan a receipt, or run a savings circle — and what we do with it.

01Who this policy covers

This policy explains how Qisma (قِسْمة) — the mobile app for splitting bills, tracking who owes what, and running group savings circles (جمعية) — collects, uses, and protects your information. It applies to anyone who creates a Qisma account, and to anyone whose name and photo are added to a bill or circle by someone who does.

02Information we collect

CategoryWhat it includes
AccountEmail, and/or your Apple or Google profile if you sign in that way; display name; profile photo, if you upload one or have one on Google; preferred currency. If you use Sign in with Apple with Hide My Email, we only ever receive Apple’s private relay address, never your real one.
Friends & participantsNames and photos of people you add to your friends list, or who are added automatically when you split a bill with someone new. A participant doesn't need a Qisma account — their name and share are still recorded.
Receipts & billsPhotos of receipts you scan, and the items, prices, and totals read from them; how a bill was split; who marked themselves (or was marked) paid.
Savings circlesCircle membership, turn order, contribution amounts, and payment claims members self-report.
SubscriptionWhether you hold an active Qisma Pro subscription, and its renewal date — handled by the App Store or Google Play Billing, depending on where you installed Qisma, together with RevenueCat, detailed below.

03How receipt photos are processed

When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read the merchant, items, and prices automatically, then stored in a private file bucket tied to your account. Anthropic processes the image to return that reading and does not use it to train models on our behalf.

04How we use it

  • Run the core features you'd expect: parsing receipts, computing splits, tracking balances, and running circle turns.
  • Apply the free-tier limit (3 bills per month) and recognize Qisma Pro subscribers.
  • Diagnose bugs and keep the service reliable.
What we don't doQisma never sells your data, and never moves money itself — every settlement (cash, bank transfer, wallet) happens directly between you and the people you split with, outside the app.

05Who we share it with

We rely on a small set of processors to run Qisma, each handling only what its role requires:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
  • Anthropic — receipt OCR, as described above.
  • RevenueCat, with Apple’s App Store or Google Play Billing — processing and managing Qisma Pro subscription purchases. Which store handles the payment depends on where you installed Qisma; we never see your card details either way.

We don't share your information with anyone else, except where required by law.

06What group members can see

Splitting a bill is inherently shared: everyone in that bill's group can see your name, photo, and what you owe or paid on that bill. Circle members can see the same for a savings circle. Neither can see your other bills, circles, or account details.

07Retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us — we'll remove your account and personal data, though a bill or circle's shared record may keep your name and share amount if other members still need it for their own history, the same way a paper receipt would.

08Your rights

Wherever you're writing to us from, you can ask to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Reach out using the contact below and we'll respond within a reasonable time.

09Children's privacy

Qisma is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

10Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to it is restricted to what each part of the service needs. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to keep your information protected.

11Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and let you know inside the app.
